Director of Special Education and Student Services

Darren Kennedy earned his bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Penn State University (1993) and his master’s degree in Special Education from California University of Pennsylvania (2000).  He received his Special Education Supervisor Certificate from Slippery Rock University (2010).


Darren began his teaching career at Wesley Highland School in 1993. He taught there for 3 years before accepting a position with the Penn Hills School District. There, he taught Emotional Support, Learning Support, and Life Skills Support until 2005 when he accepted a position as the Special Education Supervisor for the Penn Hills School District. In 2014, he accepted a position as the Director of Special Education for the Penn Hills School District, and in 2020, he accepted a position in the Wilkinsburg School District as the Director of Special Education.


Darren joins the Kiski Area School District for the 2022-2023 school year as the Director of Student Support Services with a focus on collaborating with both school staff and families in developing plans that offer educational supports and/or services necessary for students to be successful in school. He is also available to answer any questions you might have about a variety of supports available for students who are experiencing difficulties. He believes in meeting the children’s needs first and considers it a challenge to solve new ways to help students to succeed in school and go on to be successful adults in our community.
