| Pupil Transportation | |
| Transportation is provided to students in the Kiski Area School District in accordance with school laws, Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations and School Board Policy. The transportation of approximately 4,300 students to nine public schools and twenty-two non-public/ special/ charter schools is provided by eighty eight contracted vehicles. These vehicles travel approximately 7,900 miles per day. Transportation of children to and from school is becoming more complex. This is a big responsibility for bus drivers who must drive in all kinds of weather and traffic. Safety is our number one concern so drivers must devote all of their energies and skills to driving. We ask parents to assist in our safety efforts. Please review the rules for school bus transportation in the student handbook. These rules have been established for safety reasons and all students will be expected to comply. The bus driver is in complete charge of the bus and has the same authority as a teacher in the classroom. All drivers have undergone extensive training and testing to operate a school vehicle. They must devote all of energies and skills to the safe operation of the vehicle and cannot be distracted by student discipline problems behind them. Educating students on safe school bus riding is important in avoiding both injuries and fatalities inside and outside the school bus. Please remember the following: |
|
| - Leave home early enough to arrive at your bus stop on time. - Wait for your bus in a safe place...well off the roadway. - Enter your bus in an orderly manner, and take your seat immediately. - Remain in your seat while the bus is in motion. - Keep your head and arms inside the bus at all times. - Keep the aisle clear at all times. - Remain quiet and orderly. - Be courteous to your school bus driver and fellow passengers. - Be alert to traffic when leaving the bus. - Never retrieve an object you have dropped near the school bus. Tell the school bus driver and he/she will help you. |

| Please take a few minutes to review these safety tips with your child. It could save a life. | |
