| The Kiski Area School District Food Service Department operates under the direction of the National School Lunch Program, a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. This program is regulated through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. We at the Kiski Area School District believe that the lunch program is part of the educational system. We are responsible for teaching children nutrition and offering them new and exciting food items. We strive to make the lunch menus appealing, encouraging the children to eat school lunch. We closely monitor food preferences while trying to introduce new foods. The Food Service Program consists of 70 employees in seven elementary cafeterias, one intermediate cafeteria and two high school cafeterias. The two high school cafeterias are referred to as the "upper", serving ninth and tenth graders, and the "lower", serving eleventh and twelfth grade. Listed below are the cafeteria managers for each school. |

| The Food Service Staff is responsible for preparing 2400 full lunches per day with an additional 1300 partial meals. Kiski Area is one of the few school districts that still prepare many lunch items from basic recipes, similar to home. Baking fresh breads and rolls daily is a priority of the food service. The Kiski Area Food Service hopes that your child will participate in our lunch program and find it an enjoyable experience. The prices are as follows: |
||
| Elementary Elementary $2.00 Weekly $10.00 |
Secondary Secondary $2.10 Weekly $10.50 |
|
|
Reduced price lunches are $ .40 per day ($2.00 per week). Lunch includes one half pint of milk. Additional milk can be purchased for $ .50 per carton. Reduced price breakfasts are $.30 per day ($1.50 per week). |

| The first serving day of the week, money will be collected in the morning for the week. A staff member will record the days your child wishes to eat. All students are assigned a number, and it will be checked against payment records. Please ask your child his or her number and help him or her to remember it. Our policy states that all eligible reduced price students prepay for lunches during the morning collection time on the first serving day of the week. Charging for lunches is not permitted students must prepay on Mondays or have cash at the time of service. Credits must be utilized within two (2) weeks or they will be void. The alternate lunch will be offered again this year. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are always available as an alternative to the main entree. |
| Intermediate and High Schools: |
| A computerized debit system is utilized where money is deposited into a child's account, regardless of whether your child is free, reduced, or full paying student. Students will be assigned a personal identification number at the beginning of the school year, which they will use to access their student account. Students who are just entering 7th grade and were free or reduced in the 6th grade will still remain free or reduced for the first two weeks of school until a new free and reduced lunch application is submitted and approved. If no application is submitted, they will revert to being a full paying student. This does not apply to a student that is directly certified (you would have received a letter prior to the start of school or on the first day of school). Personal identification numbers (PIN) will be distributed on the first day of school. Students who attended Allegheny-Hyde Park the prior year will keep and use their same PIN. If paying by check or money order, please be sure to sign the student's name in the memo section. This will only be done until student pictures are taken and ID numbers are assigned. Money is to be deposited in the form of a check, money order, or cash. Please be aware that if your child is a free or reduced paying student, the system will know this and price meals accordingly. Free and reduced paying students can still deposit money into their accounts enabling them to purchase additional lunches or ala carte items above the basic meal. There is no limit on the amount of money that can be deposited into the account, and the cashier will notify students when their account balance is low. There is total confidentiality with the system; all students will access the system in the same manner, regardless if they receive free, reduced, or full price meals. The Kiski Area Food Service Department's primary concern is the students' welfare. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Food Service Director, Meredith Bailey at (724) 842-0466. Each month an exciting new menu is sent home with each elementary and intermediate school child and posted in each homeroom at the secondary level. The menu is announced daily at the secondary level. Each menu is written to meet 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowances for children. Free and reduced lunch applications are available in the district offices. You are urged to take advantage of this program. In the operation of the child feeding programs, Kiski Area School District is an equal opportunity education institution and no child will be discriminated against because of sex, race, color, national origin, age or handicap. If you believe you have been discriminated against, contact Dr. Patricia Thomas, Title IX Coordinator and 504 Coordinator at 200 Poplar Street, Vandergrift, PA 15690 - (724) 842-0452, or write the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250. |
