Title I Program

Title I is the largest federal aid program for students in the United States.  The goal of Title I is to provide extra assistance for students who need it most and are, therefore, furthest from meeting the state’s academic standards.

Funding from the federal government is available to eligible school districts for implementation of Title I programs.  Currently, five of the seven elementary buildings in the Kiski Area School District qualify to receive funding for Title I programs.  The eligible schools include Allegheny-Hyde Park, Bell-Avon, Laurel Point, North Washington, and Vandergrift.

Vandergrift and Bell-Avon have been designated as Schoolwide Programs stipulating that the allocated funds be utilized to promote the academic development of all students.  The remaining four Title I buildings provide assistance for those students most in need of extra support in the reading program.  In all buildings, reading specialists conduct small group instruction supporting classroom skills and objectives.
