                                                        DOLCH WORDS

Dolch word lists contain 220 of the most common sight words in children’s reading books. Many of these words cannot be sounded out because they do not follow decoding rules. Children who are able to instantly recognize these words have a good foundation for beginning reading.

The Dolch list is divided into pre-primer (K-1), primer (first half of first grade), first (second half of first grade), second and third grade words. To help your child, have your son/daughter read the appropriate list/s of words to you and make note of the ones that he/she does not instantly recognize. Work on the words that you note.
