Building Transfer Requests

Primary School Building Transfer Requests

Kiski Area School District families may request permission to attend one of the District's three primary schools outside their assigned building due to extenuating circumstances. Building transfer requests are considered annually and are based on available enrollment and building capacity.

Important: Approval of a transfer is not guaranteed and applies to only one school year.

Mrs. Julie Hansen serves as the District's point of contact for all initial building transfer questions. She can be reached at Central Office at 724-842-0453 or by email at [email protected].

How to Request a Building Transfer

Step 1: Submit an Official Written Request

The parent or guardian with custodial rights must submit a signed request letter by U.S. mail to:

Dr. Emily Mather
250 Hyde Park Road
Leechburg, PA 15656

Requests must be received by July 1 each year to be considered for the upcoming school year.

Email requests cannot serve as the official building transfer request.

What Should Be Included in the Letter?

Please include:

  • Student's full name
  • Student's grade level for the upcoming school year
  • Student's assigned primary school
  • Primary school being requested
  • Parent/guardian name and contact information
  • Reason for the transfer request

How Are Requests Reviewed?

Building transfer requests are generally reviewed in mid- to late July, when the District has a clearer picture of enrollment for the upcoming school year.

Requests are considered based on several factors, including:

  • Enrollment and building capacity: The requested transfer must fit the enrollment needs and available space within the requested school.
  • Sibling considerations: Priority may be given when a sibling already attends the requested building, particularly when a sibling is assigned to a specific special education program or setting.
  • District programming and student needs: The District may consider additional educational, staffing, or programming factors when determining whether a transfer can be accommodated.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.

Transportation Requirements

Families receiving an approved building transfer are responsible for providing daily transportation to and from the approved school building.

The District does not provide transportation accommodations for a voluntarily requested building transfer. Approval of a transfer does not permit a student to use an alternate or miscellaneous bus stop for transportation to or from the requested school.

Families should consider their ability to provide reliable daily transportation before submitting a building transfer request.

When Will Families Be Notified?

Families will receive written notification indicating whether the request has been approved or denied, generally by the end of July or the first week of August.

Transfers Must Be Requested Every Year

All building transfer approvals are valid for one school year only.

For example, an approval for the 2026–2027 school year applies only to that school year.

If you would like your child to continue attending a school outside of their assigned attendance area the following year, you must complete the building transfer request process again.

A new written request must be submitted by U.S. mail and received by July 1 each year.

Previous approval of a building transfer does not guarantee approval for a future school year because enrollment, staffing, programming, and available building capacity may change annually.
